Recombination

The process in the atmosphere where positive ions and negative electrons or ions neutralize each other to form neutral atoms or molecules. This phenomenon reduces the concentration of free charge carriers in the ionosphere. It is particularly prevalent at lower altitudes where particle densities are higher.
