A climatic period and pollen zone within the Holocene epoch, immediately preceding the current Sub-Atlantic period. It is dated from approximately 5,660 to 2,800 years before present and is characterized in paleoclimatology by a climate that was generally cooler and moister than the preceding Atlantic period. This period saw the decline of warmth-loving trees like elm and lime in favor of beech and hornbeam in many parts of Europe.
