Subarctic Upper Water

The relatively fresh and cool surface water mass found in the subarctic regions of the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans. It is influenced by high precipitation and river runoff, leading to lower salinity compared to subtropical waters. This water mass is a precursor to the formation of intermediate and deep waters.
