Mode water

A large, relatively homogeneous body of water found in the upper ocean, characterized by uniform temperature and salinity properties. These waters form in specific regions where deep winter mixing creates a thick layer that then spreads laterally. Subtropical Mode Water and Intermediate Mode Water are examples of these distinct water masses.
