Delta region

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004914

The area of upper-level divergence located in the left-exit region of a jet streak, often visualized as a delta or fan shape on synoptic charts. This divergence aloft promotes upward vertical motion in the atmospheric column below, contributing to surface pressure falls and the development or intensification of low-pressure systems. The right-entrance region of a jet streak is also an area of divergence, while the left-entrance and right-exit regions are associated with convergence.
