Delta Eddington

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004913

A two-stream approximation method used in atmospheric radiative transfer models to simplify calculations of scattering and absorption. It represents the highly forward-peaked scattering by aerosols and clouds with a Dirac delta function, while the remaining, more isotropic part of the scattering phase function is approximated by a simple two-term expansion. This approach provides an efficient way to model the transfer of solar radiation through the atmosphere, balancing computational cost and accuracy.
