Downrush
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005115
A sudden, strong surge of cold air descending rapidly from a thunderstorm, often associated with a microburst or macroburst. This intense downward current of air impacts the ground and spreads out violently, producing damaging straight-line winds. Downrushes can generate wind speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, posing a hazard to aviation and ground structures.
