Forecast lead time
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005713
The duration between the time a weather forecast is issued and the future time for which the forecast is valid. For example, a forecast issued at 6 AM for conditions at 6 PM on the same day has a 12-hour lead time. Longer lead times generally correspond to lower forecast accuracy due to the inherent chaotic nature of the atmosphere.
