Freeze-up
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005767
The process by which a body of water, such as a lake, river, or sea, becomes covered with ice. This typically occurs as air temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period, leading to the formation and growth of ice crystals on the water surface. The timing and extent of freeze-up are influenced by factors like water depth, currents, and salinity.
