Global Level of the Sea Surface
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005998
A theoretical equipotential surface of the Earth's gravity field that approximates the mean sea level if the oceans were at rest and extended under the continents. This surface, also known as the geoid, serves as a fundamental vertical datum for measuring heights and elevations across the globe. It is determined through satellite altimetry and gravimetric measurements.
