High tide flooding

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006247

Coastal inundation that occurs independently of severe weather events, resulting from the combination of elevated sea levels and astronomical high tides. This type of flooding is becoming more frequent and widespread due to sea level rise, impacting infrastructure and daily life in low-lying coastal areas. It is also known as nuisance flooding or recurrent tidal flooding, and its frequency is projected to increase globally.
