Hurricano

An obsolete English form of hurricane, from the Spanish huracán, used in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries both for a violent storm and for a waterspout. Shakespeare's plural hurricanoes in King Lear is usually read as waterspouts. It is no longer a meteorological term, and the National Hurricane Center has no storm category or regional name by this form.
