Huygens's construction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006303

A geometric method for determining the propagation of a wave by considering every point on a wavefront as a source of secondary spherical wavelets. The new position of the wavefront after a given time is the surface tangent to all of these secondary wavelets. This principle explains phenomena like diffraction, reflection, and refraction for all types of waves, including atmospheric acoustic and gravity waves.
