Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010721

A systematic process of reprocessing historical meteorological observations using a fixed, modern numerical weather prediction model and data assimilation system. This creates a consistent, long-term record of atmospheric and oceanic variables, free from changes in observing systems or model physics over time. Reanalysis datasets are widely used for climate research and model validation.
