Snow ice
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008985
A layer of ice formed on a body of water when a snow cover becomes saturated with water from below and subsequently freezes. This process occurs when the weight of the snow depresses the existing ice sheet, allowing water to seep up through cracks or pores. Snow ice is less dense and structurally weaker than clear ice.
