Special weather report

An unscheduled aviation weather report issued when meteorological conditions at an airport change and cross specific thresholds defined for safety and operational impact. These reports, identified by the code SPECI, are triggered by changes in visibility, cloud ceiling, wind, or the onset of phenomena like thunderstorms or freezing precipitation. A SPECI amends the previous routine report (METAR) to provide timely updates to pilots and controllers.
