Sudden impulse (SI+ or SI-)

In solar-terrestrial terms, a sudden perturbation of several gammas
in the northward component of the low-latitude geomagnetic field,
not associated with a following geomagnetic storm. (An SI becomes
an SC if a storm follows.)
