Sunspot cycle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009390
The approximately 11-year periodic variation in the number of sunspots observed on the Sun's surface. This cycle reflects changes in the Sun's magnetic field, which reverses polarity at the peak of each cycle. The average length of a sunspot cycle is about 11 years, but individual cycles can vary from 9 to 14 years.
