Sustained wind speed

The average wind speed measured over a specified time interval, typically one or two minutes, at a standard height of 10 meters above the ground. This measurement excludes momentary gusts and lulls, providing a more representative value of the overall wind conditions. It is a key parameter in hurricane intensity classification and aviation weather reports.
