Peak gust

The highest instantaneous wind speed observed at a location during a specified period, such as a 10-minute interval or a 24-hour day. It represents a sudden, brief increase in wind speed and is distinct from the sustained wind, which is an average speed over a longer duration. The World Meteorological Organization recommends reporting the maximum wind gust from the preceding 10 minutes in standard observations.
