Gust amplitude
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010527
The maximum change in wind speed during a wind gust, measured as the difference between the peak gust speed and the mean wind speed over a specified averaging period. It quantifies the intensity of a sudden, brief increase in wind velocity. Gust amplitude is a key parameter in assessing wind loading on structures and in aviation safety.
