Vernal equinox

The moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north, marking the astronomical beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. At this time, day and night are approximately equal in length across most of the globe. It typically occurs around March 20 or 21 each year.
