Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002323

  1. An astronomical coordinate that specifies the angular distance of a celestial body eastward along the celestial equator from the vernal equinox. This measurement is analogous to longitude on Earth, providing one of two coordinates needed to locate objects in the sky. It is expressed in hours, minutes, and seconds, with 24 hours spanning the full 360 degrees of the celestial equator.

  2. The celestial longitude of the sun. This value is 0 at the vernal equinox, 90 at the summer solstice, 180 at the autumnal equinox and 270 at the winter solstice.
