Virtual temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002986
The temperature that dry air would need to have to possess the same density as a sample of moist air at the same pressure. It accounts for the fact that water vapor is less dense than dry air, making moist air less dense than dry air at the same temperature and pressure. This adjustment is typically expressed in Kelvin and is always greater than or equal to the actual temperature of the moist air.
The virtual temperature is the temperature a parcel which contains no moisture would have to equal the density of a parcel at a specific temperature and humidity.
