  1. An urgent public announcement issued by a meteorological agency when a hazardous weather event is occurring, imminent, or has a very high probability of occurring. Warnings indicate a threat to life or property and require immediate action to protect oneself and others. They are issued for phenomena such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and severe thunderstorms.

  2. A warning is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, is imminent, or has a very high probability of occurring. A warning is used for conditions posing a threat to life or property.
