Any hazardous meteorological phenomenon with the intensity to pose a threat to life, property, or public safety. This category includes tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding, as well as blizzards and extreme heat or cold. In the United States, the National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning for storms producing hail of at least one inch in diameter or surface wind gusts of 58 miles per hour or greater.
