Penclomedine

  1. A substance that is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It belongs to the family of drugs called alkylating agents.

  2. A synthetic derivative of pyrimidine with antineoplastic activity. Penclomedine alkylates and crosslinks DNA, resulting in DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis. This agent is more active against tumor cells that are defective in p53 function.
