ARP

Address Resolution Protocol, a communication protocol used in the Internet Protocol (IP) suite to discover the Media Access Control (MAC) address associated with a given IP address. When a device needs to send data to another device on the same local network, it uses ARP to map the logical IP address to the physical MAC address. ARP operates at the network layer of the OSI model.
