MAC address

A hardware identification number that uniquely identifies each device on a network. This address is assigned by the manufacturer and embedded into the network interface controller (NIC) of a device. It operates at the data link layer of the OSI model and is a 48-bit identifier, often represented as six pairs of hexadecimal digits.
