Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000803

A 32-bit number used in conjunction with an IP address to determine which part of the address identifies the network and which part identifies the host within that network. It is represented in dotted-decimal notation, similar to an IP address, or as a CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) suffix. For example, a netmask of 255.255.255.0 indicates that the first three octets define the network.
