Internet Protocol version 4, the fourth revision of the primary communications protocol that routes traffic on the internet. It uses a 32-bit address space, which allows for approximately 4.3 billion unique addresses. An IPv4 address is typically represented in dot-decimal notation as four numbers, each ranging from 0 to 255, separated by periods, such as 192.0.2.1.
