Baud
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000096
A unit of measure for symbol rate, representing the number of symbol changes, or signaling events, occurring per second in a transmission medium. Each symbol can carry one or more bits of information, so the baud rate is not always equal to the bit rate. For instance, a 2400 baud modem might achieve a higher bit rate by encoding multiple bits per symbol.
