Handshake

A process of automated negotiation between two communicating entities to establish the parameters of a connection before regular data communication begins. This exchange typically involves a series of messages to agree on protocols, authentication, and encryption methods. The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) uses a three-way handshake to establish a connection.
