SYN flood
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-001188
A type of denial-of-service (DoS) attack in which an attacker rapidly initiates a connection to a server but does not complete the handshake. By sending a large number of SYN (synchronize) requests without responding to the server's SYN-ACK (synchronize-acknowledgment) packets, the attacker exhausts the server's resources. This leaves legitimate users unable to connect to the service.
