Keep-alive

A mechanism used in computer networking to prevent an idle connection from being dropped by an intermediate network device or to detect if the other end of the connection has become unresponsive. It involves sending small, periodic messages to maintain the connection's active state. HTTP/1.1 connections often use keep-alive by default.
