Heat sink
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000521
A passive heat exchanger that transfers thermal energy from an electronic or mechanical device to a cooler fluid medium, usually air or a liquid coolant. It works by increasing the device's surface area in contact with the cooler medium, facilitating more efficient dissipation of heat. Heat sinks are made from materials with high thermal conductivity, such as aluminum or copper alloys.
