A container format for storing individual images and image sequences, specified as ISO/IEC 23008-12. High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format can store still images encoded with codecs like HEVC or AVC, along with associated metadata, audio, and text. Compared to JPEG, it offers better compression quality at similar file sizes, and supports features like transparency and 16-bit color depth.
