Color depth
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000210
The number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a digital image or display. A higher color depth allows for a greater range of distinct colors to be displayed, resulting in smoother gradients and more realistic images. Common color depths include 8-bit (256 colors), 16-bit (65,536 colors), and 24-bit (16.7 million colors), often referred to as true color.
