Octal

A base-8 number system that uses the digits 0 through 7. Each digit position in an octal number represents a power of 8. This system was historically used in computing to represent 6-bit, 12-bit, or 24-bit word sizes, as one octal digit can cleanly represent three binary digits (bits).
