Virus definition

A data file used by antivirus software containing signatures to identify malware, such as viruses, worms, or trojans. These signatures are characteristic patterns of code or behavior that allow the antivirus program to detect threats by scanning files, memory, and network traffic. To remain effective against new threats, these definition files must be updated frequently, with vendors sometimes releasing updates multiple times per day as new malware is discovered and analyzed.
