IDS

An intrusion detection system (IDS) monitors network traffic for suspicious activity and known threats, alerting administrators when anomalies are detected. It analyzes packets for signatures of attacks or deviations from normal behavior. An IDS can be network-based (NIDS) or host-based (HIDS), with NIDS monitoring an entire network segment and HIDS focusing on a single device.
