Integrated Drive Electronics, an interface standard for connecting storage devices like hard drives and CD-ROM drives to a computer's motherboard. It uses a 40-pin ribbon cable for data transfer and a separate power connector. This standard was widely used before being largely superseded by Serial ATA (SATA) for its faster speeds and simpler cabling.
