Advanced Technology Attachment is a standard interface for connecting storage devices such as hard disk drives and optical drives to a computer's motherboard. It defines the physical and electrical interface, as well as the command set for data transfer. The original ATA standard has largely been superseded by Serial ATA (SATA).
