A computer bus interface, Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, used for connecting mass storage devices like hard disk drives and solid-state drives to a system's motherboard. It employs serial signaling technology to transfer data in a continuous stream, which replaced the parallel signaling used by its predecessor, Parallel ATA (PATA). The most recent major revision, SATA 3.0, supports a maximum data transfer rate of 6 gigabits per second.
