An interface standard, formally known as ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment), for connecting storage devices to a computer motherboard. With Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE), the controller logic is located on the drive itself rather than on a separate interface card. The standard uses a 40-pin or 80-wire ribbon cable and has been largely superseded in modern systems by the Serial ATA (SATA) interface.
