An interface standard for connecting storage devices like hard drives and optical drives to a computer's motherboard. Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics, also known as ATA-2, improved upon the original IDE standard by supporting faster data transfer rates and larger storage capacities. It allowed for up to four devices on two channels, each with a master and slave configuration.
