Adrenal gland

1. A flattened, roughly triangular body resting upon the upper end of each kidney; it is one of the ductless glands furnishing internal secretions (epinephrine and norepinephrine from the medulla and steroid hormones from the cortex).

2. A pair of small glands, one located on top of each kidney. They produce steroid hormones, adrenaline and noradrenaline, which help control control heart rate, blood pressure, and other important body functions.
