Allowance

1. The amount of pollution a source is allowed to discharge during a given period of time.

2. The permission given by the government, to emit a certain amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) or nitrogen oxide (NOx). For example, under the Acid Rain Program, one allowance permits the emissions of one ton of sulfur dioxide (SO2).

3. The permission, given by the government, to emit a certain amount of sulfur dioxide or nitrogen oxides.

4. An authorization by the Administrator under the Acid Rain Program to emit up to one ton of sulfur dioxide during or after a specified calendar year.

5. Amount of pollution a source is allowed to discharge during a given period of time.

6. Limited authorization for the production or consumption of a regulated substance established under subsection (e) of section 103 in Division S, Innovation for the Environment, of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (Pub. 7. A limited authorization to emit a specific quantity (e.g., one ton) of a pollutant from a regulated source.
