Bin

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-003105

Regarding a histogram or frequency distribution, an interval within the range of a random variable for which a count (or percentage) of the observations is made. The number of bins for a histogram is determined on a caseby- case basis. In general, equal interval widths are used for each bin; however, in some cases (e.g., Chi-square test), individual bin widths are calculated so as to divide the distribution into intervals of equal probability.
