Biological Nitrification

1. The process by which ammonia is oxidized into nitric acid or another nitrate or nitrite. Biological nitrification is a key step in the removal of nitrogen from wastewater.
2. A process accomplished by a few groups of aerobic organisms in which ammonia is converted to nitrite and then nitrate.
